Bio: If you thought one Beachworth was bad enough, their is actually two if these mechanically inept short bastards running around within the shadows. Though unlike his brother Ducky, Pal is just to damned chipper for his own good he is super positive and see’s everything as a challenge and enjoys meeting and dealing with new people. This is in direct contrast to is brother who is a bit of a curmudgeon and is very stuck in his ways, though where the Beachworth’s agree is with their burning hatred for everything connected to the UCAS and the False Flag. Seeing that they are the last of their family line, the brothers haven’t been in direct contact for many decades even though they both serve within the Brotherhood of Mercenaries. Pal unlike his brother didn’t choose to walk the legitimate life and dreamed big, he saw a chance to strike it rich as a soldier of fortune and when he given a chance to escape his boring suburban life after the great tragedy of 2018, he dove head first at the chance. Pal didn’t have the luxury of serving in the the military and going to college like his brother, no he was destined for the hum drum life of a working stiff.
Pal always dreamed big, but yet fate seemed to keep kicking him down into the gutter. He wanted to go to college but his grades where poor, he wanted to join the military like his big brother but he had bum knees and was nearly blind without his glasses. He wanted to escape the small town where he was drowning but his bank account was dangerously low and he wanted to escape the girl he was seeing after graduation but one drunken mistake secured him a bride and a child for his eighteenth birthday. Though through all of this he stayed positive and kept dreaming of the time when he would be allowed to shine, when he would be allowed to make his mark in the world and allow the people to respect Hal for more than a screw up. Being disowned from his family do to his fathering a child as a teenager and not being exactly like his big brother and bringing shame onto the family, He struck out on his own and took any odd job to support his wife and child, though he secretly wished death would gracefully take him away from the wicked women he had married. He would eventually land himself a job as a mail carrier, and he would work any and all overtime just so he could escape the one bedroom prison he shared with the women whom he called his wife. Though for Hal this was a blessing in disguise, he is a very social and upbeat person and his job would allow him all the time to build up a network of contacts and friends, that all would eagerly await his arrival each day. Even though his home life was a living hell, his wife physically abusing poor old Hal and his children suffering under her cruel and bitter behaviour. He managed to keep himself sane through his work and is dreaming of the streets paved with gold, and the better life that would and must come for him. He tried to be a good father for his children, though his wife would torment and torture Hal to the brink of his sanity, thus creating a pattern of abuse where even his children didn’t respect their father. Hal would just go through the motions and accept his lot in life, he contemplated suicide a number of times, but he couldn’t let his brother down by taking the easy way out. So he just kept trucking along, through multiple pregnancy’s, and watching his pay check draining with each subsequent child.
Though for Hal he was starting to even question the multiple pregnancy’s seeing as he wasn’t allowed to touch her in that manner in months, and the children would look nothing like him. He knew at this point that she was cheating, and having multiple affairs and he was paying for and raising other men’s children. His marital bed was stained and his manhood was being crippled under the weight of this bitter and hateful women that was abusing him nightly, she was spending all his money and keeping him trapped in the cycle of abuse. Hal would threaten to divorce her, if she didn’t stop and all that would accomplish would be nothing as she would physically and mentally abuse him further and threaten to take him for everything he had and leave him penniless on the street. Hal would just succumb to the abuse, bow his head and apologize for upsetting his wife, then he would go and sleep on the couch for a week or more. Though through all the abuse, he managed to still hold his head up high and keep on smiling at work, as he hid all the pain and hurt from his customers and fellow postal workers. As the years went by Hal would continue to live his dual life and keep dreaming for the better days, though he would begin to start to drown his woes in the bottom of a bottle and try to numb the pain. Again thoughts of suicide would creep into his mind and eventually he couldn’t keep these thoughts at bay. Hal would eventually attempt to kill himself in a desperate cry for help, as he polished of a bottle of cheap synthetic gin, took a handful of pain pills he purchased on the street, placed a rope around his neck and took what was to be a final leap off the bath tub. As luck would have it the shower rod would slip, and he would have a violent reaction to the pills and alcohol, he would awaken laying on the bathroom floor in a puddle of his own vomit with the noose still around his neck. All he received for his failed attempt was a severe beating from his wife, when she found him in the morning. Hal was to ashamed to even reach out to his brother or anyone for help, so he just took his beating, took a shower put on his uniform and fake smile and shuffled off to work. His optimism crushed and his smile nothing but a mask that hide the truth from everyone around him, he was surrounded by people who cared yet he was to broken and depressed to notice, and even the letters he would receive from his brother Bernard would fail to brighten his day.
This was the life that Hal was living and his brother was living the dream that he wanted he was the hero soldier, he was the hero police officer and the favourite of the family. While Hal wasn’t even allowed to come home for the holidays and would have to spend those days in his living room, while his wife entertained one of her gentleman callers in their bedroom, or force him to partake as a play toy for the other man. He was broken mentally and physically and would just follow along to save himself the beating, even though he was a physical adept and was highly skilled in combat like many of his ilk, the decades of abuse had taken there toll on him and he was nothing more then a shell of a man anymore. Hal would just go about his day to day life and keep wearing that fake smile and dreaming of the better days that he had invented in his mind. He would imagine himself a valiant police officer saving the day, or being that heroic soldier bringing down the enemy. He would just escape into his dreams and into his fantasies where he could be the hero instead of the victim. Hal would be lost in his alcoholism and addiction to numb the pain and give him the courage to face yet another day. He would pray for death and he would pray for his children to leave the nest, he was tired of raising other men’s children, and paying for everything on a postman’s salary. He wanted out but he had no where to go, and what he thought was nowhere to turn while some would say that the Great Tragedy of 2018 was a horrible occurrence and they could never see the silver lining beyond the blood and tears. Those people hadn’t walked a mile in Hal’s shoes and as the magical energy ripped across the landscape, the volcanoes erupted and the earth shook violently. As millions where perishing and many more cowering in terror, Hal was being raped by his wife’s current lover and just wishing for death to make the pain stop, he wanted the humiliation to end and as the spirits would tear forth from the astral plane and ravage those in the bedroom. Hal would cry out as his body burned, and his soul was violated further by the fallen native warriors, he would eventually pass out from the pain and accept the sweet embrace of death. This was what he thought would be his escape and his release from all the pain and suffering.
Though for Hal death was not in the cards on that night, but he would be given his release and his chance to escape from the hell he was living in. He would become the master of his own destiny and the master of his own fate. As he came to, he would notice that he was surrounded by the corpses of the men who were raping him and his wife that was tormenting him. He at first didn’t know what to do, as he had been abused for so long that he had become a stepford husband and suffering from serious mental distress. He was free and he couldn’t bring himself to leave, he just meandered around the house lost in the fog of his mind, his children all deceased rendered to nothing but ash, his neighbourhood erupting in chaos and all hell breaking loose around him. Tough for Hal he was free and even though he couldn’t control it, a smile returned to his face and he would once again feel something other then discontent and fear. He would go to the fridge and make himself something to eat, pour himself a drink and sit down on the sofa in front of the  television that was nothing but snow. He would just sit there and laugh as the world was burning around him, he just sat there watching the snow on the screen laughing and having a grand old time as the sounds of gunfire erupted in the streets and the nights of blood would commence. Hal couldn’t be happier, for him he was given a new beginning and a second chance at life, this was his time to shine and he had been granted his wish. He was free and he was about to embark on his new journey and the world was about to learn about the man known as Pal, the brother of Ducky was about to pack up the remnants of his life into a few suitcases load the trunk of his station wagon and drive off into the sunset as the tides of war would come crashing in.
Pal would drive off into the sunset as the street he suffered on, would become a statistic in the great tragedy. He would leave the city and enter the wastelands, the forbidden zone for any suburban man, he would just embrace his new life and like a sore thumb in his tweed sport jacket, corduroy pants and large frame dad glasses he was truly out of his element. Though even though he looked like a fish out of water the local’s would sense a kindred spirit, they would sense a man that has been through hell and back and a man that belonged. They senses that Pal was one of them, the forgotten, the abandoned, and the abused he would be accepted with open arms by the raiders and taken into there fold. He would be given protection, food and company, he would be treated as an equal by the forgotten. He had finally found his place out in the wastes away from the dangers of the city, and away from the abuse and suffering of his suburban life. Hal would eventually befriend a young raider by the name of Blaine and the two would help each other during these trying times, Hal would give Blaine the fatherly advice he had stored up and would fall on the deaf ears of his own children and in exchange Blaine would help teach Hal the finer arts of martial combat and swordsmanship. The two would form a magical circle and help each other grow in mystical power, Blaine would look up to Hal as a father and take his words to heart, he would listen to his advice and go on to become one of the most beloved Chieftains of the raider community do to the teachings of the man he would call Pal.
While he was with the raiders, Pal couldn’t stand the brutal killing and unnecessary violence that would be brought down upon people who would have already surrendered. Yes he would have no issue with self defence and killing in a battle, but just raiding a town or camp for no other reason than to kill was unsettling to Hal and this was where he would have his issues and he would tell Blaine that there are better ways to go about gaining supplies, instead of killing the other outlanders, try to offer a truce with them, try to extend a trade agreement. It is better to stand as one against the enemy that awaits in the city, then to war amongst each other like savages. Hal as well brought this same advice to the current Chieftain, and initially his advice was scorned and ignored and the bloodshed would commence, though eventually what Hal warned of would come knocking and the war from the city would come directly for the raiders. The combined forces of the Natives and UCAS would come crashing down onto the raiders and one by one the warring tribes would fall, Hal once again approached the Chieftain with his request for unification of the tribes, before they all perished under the might of a superior opponent. This time his advice was taken and the raiding tribes, buried the hatchet and would stand united against the invading forces. So in the summer of 2020 the False Flag would suffer a great defeat in the wilds, as the raiders would unite and stand as one against them, what they lacked in technology they made up for in heart. The resolve of the drifters was unrelenting and once again Hal proved that he was more then just a punching bag and victim of abuse, his combat prowess shined through during that battle and they would eventually break the will of the greater foe and force them into surrender. Freeing the ruins for many decades to come, and starting a new precedent of cooperation of the tribes, something that would survive even today do to the actions of Blaine. Pal as he was called by the raiders would eventually go onto to bigger and better things, though he would never forget where he came from and he would never be prouder of his adopted son Blaine. Even the death of the hero of the wastes Blaine, would not break the tribes resolve and they would find new leadership under the Woodsman, these have there pal Hal to thank for their success and their survival during those early days. They accepted him, when he was at his worst and in return he blessed them with his jovial personality and fatherly advice that would carry these tribes for many years to come and inspire the young teenager Blaine into greatness and becoming one of the most beloved shadow warriors ever to live.
Well for Hal the battle of the wastes was nothing but a stepping stone and this would allow him to gain the attention of the new mercenary unit the Brotherhood of Mercenaries that had formed in resistance to the natives, these soldiers had banned together to defend the citizens of America against the forces of the Native American Nations and the United Canadian American States. These mercenaries small in number initially where always looking for qualified patriotic soldiers to stand up and defend the people. Fight for the nation they loved so much and protect the innocent from the abuses of the Natives, well for Pal he was more interested in reaching his dream of playing solider man and being a mercenary man. He saw this as a chance to strike it rich and as well strike a blow for all of those people who couldn’t escape their abuser, he accepted membership with the Brotherhood and said his goodbyes to the raiders, he would leave one tribe for another. Little did Pal know that he was the closest he had been to his brother in many years and neither would know it, as they would be sent off to different battlefields to fight the same fight. Though for Hal he would once again excel in the paramilitary lifestyle and he would adapt to it like a fish to water. He was living his dream, he was playing soldier man and he was getting paid well far better than he had ever seen when he was working for the postal service and he didn’t have his crazy wife stealing all his money either. The years would be kind to Pal as he would break out of his shell and the upbeat, optimist that he once was would come bubbling out, though still hiding deep within was the broken man that was lurking beneath the shell of optimism. There is a dark side to Hal that some refer to as his Mr Hyde, as much as Pal is all about honour and maintaining a code that is upbeat and being everyone’s friend, his Mr Hyde on the other hand is a very dark friend indeed and if the darkness ever bubbles forth, all the years of abuse, neglect and torment manifest in a man that is down right evil and sadistic. The problem is no one knows what causes the switch in personality and one minute Hal is having a diligent conversation or should I say interrogation the next he is driving a ball pein hammer into the subjects hand. So you could say Hal is basically good cop and bad cop wrapped up in one very dangerous person that has been allowed to get away with his dual personality, do to him having zero memory of the other half.
Some say that this other side, this dark side is a defence mechanism that stems from his years of abuse and it was a way for him to survive, others say it came from his decades of substance abuse and multiple suicide attempts. Where it comes from is left for debate, the problem is that it exists and with Pal the man that is everyone’s friend one day and a total monster the next is an issue. Pal the man that will only kill on the battlefield and in self defence and his other side that will kill for the sheer enjoyment of hearing someone scream is a problem. Supposedly he is on medication for this condition since it fist came to the attention of the Brotherhood during a old “Meet The Mercs” interview when bad Hal came out to play during the interview and he dove onto the interviewer and stabbed him over one hundred times with a ball point pen killing the man not with the pen, but with his bare hands as he tore his oesophagus out. After that any further interviews with Pal where cancelled and he was sent to speak with the shrink. They felt it was okay to medicate the addict and send him back out onto the battlefield, though bad Hal or Hyde is a fierce combatant with zero self perseverance and completely unpredictable in his nature. The only thing they know is Hyde still understands, the command structure and the mission parameters, and will not attack fellow mercenaries unprovoked, though there is a fine line of what is provocation once Hyde is out of the box and ha come to play.
Well that brings us to current times and with this mercenary anything is possible, he is a total wildcard and can’t be trusted since he can be the nicest man you have ever meet one minute and the next he is trying to kill you with his bare hands. Bad Hal has never been truly dealt with and Pal has been allowed to remain broken for far to long, he has become what he has dreamed of and that is a true mercenary man, he is the ultimate soldier and a man that has more friends then enemies. Probably cause he has killed anyone he considers a threat, and those still on his list aren’t long for this world. The brother of Ducky is a broken man, that is still saner then the grumpy old cop and that’s not saying very much. At least with pal you know what your getting and it’s not murderous thief, hiding as a hero cop. You get a straight killer that wears a smile and nice suit, so as long as bad Hal is not out Pal is someone that will buy you a drink, regal you of the tales of old Seattle and the bloody days of the Ghost Dance and war of wastes.
This mercenary has recently returned to Seattle for some very lethal payback and his targets are anyone that wears the uniform of the UCAS, remember back on December 10th 2073 when General James O’Brian captured and executed Blaine in the events that triggered the Battle of Fort Lewis during the Battle of Seattle. Well that is the same Blaine that Pal helped raise and thought of as a son, that is the same man that Pal fought back to back wit during the war of the wastes. That is the man that he has come to avenge and wade through a river of blood to seek justice for his closest friend wrongfully executed. General O’Brian made a fatal mistake in bragging about doing the deed and sending Blaine to the grave with a stretched neck, it might have taken a while for the information to get to Pal but once it did you can guess what happened next. Yup Hal made a be line for Seattle and the UCAS will have the devil to pay for their sins at the hands of the friendliest of mercenaries. Welcome back to Seattle Pal or should I say Hyde, the city has changed since he left so many years ago, but one thing stands true. Old Seattle looms in the shadows and this is where these old timers like to play, this is what they are used to, and this is what they prefer. They enjoy wading through rivers of blood and creating terror in there wake, they have no respect for anyone other then themselves, they sling high calibre fire power around like it’s a pop gun and they rely on there cybernetic targeting and tactile computers to sort out the innocents from the guilty. Well with Pal back in town this is just another old timer that won’t care who he sends to a grave in the name of justice, even killing people that had nothing to do with the execution of a criminal God bless each and everyone of us, the tides of war are turning and Seattle is falling brick by brick to these monsters as they steam roll progress in the name of freedom and justice.
